Impound
by Gary Lee Vincent

Shirley Wade had it all: a loving fiancé and a bright career as a paralegal at the prestigious Pittsburgh law firm of McNeil, Jamison, and Young.
When an energy company needed some title work done for a project they were doing in West Virginia, Shirley is sent to the backwoods county courthouse there to research the title.

While there, her car gets impounded, and little does she know that the people behind it operate a chop shop and target out-of-towners. Unknowingly, Shirley attempts to get her car back and what ensues next is an utter terror.

With danger lurking at every turn, no one can be trusted, and something far more sinister than an illegal chop shop lurks in the shadows of the impound yard and the evil intentions of the clan that runs it.

Burning Bulb Publishing
Robin's Review: This was a quick and easy read that totally creeped me out. I am forever going to remember this book every time I travel to West Virginia. It is horror at its best.
I purchased this book at The Living Dead Weekend in Monroeville this year.

Robin’s Review of A Creation of Yesterday

A Creation of Yesterday

by D.L Fletcher

Rating: 5 out of 5.
A Creation of Yesterday
D.L Fletcher

Sometimes what was written yesterday can't be changed...With every breath they took, and every decision they made, something was being created for them tomorrow.
With the help Alice sought in protecting her granddaughter Cami years ago, she thought she knew what tomorrow would look like. For Rick, he and his boys thought they were doing a good job protecting Cami. What none of them knew, was the real impact of their decisions until today arrived and tomorrow had passed...This is A Creation of Yesterday...Creation Series Book 1 - A Creation of Tomorrow Book 2 - A Creation of Yesterday
Robin's Review: “A Creation of Yesterday” continues with where “A Creation of Tomorrow” leaves off, Cami’s story and her life since the last book. I will not give away any spoilers because you have to read it with fresh first-time eyes. I will say this is not my normal go to genre of book. It crosses into romance, and of late I’ve grown a little tired of romance. This book has truly shaken me from romance fatigue.

A Creation of Yesterday, is a multi-layered read by crossing different genres and doing it flawlessly. I will say that this is my favorite book of the year. It has complex characters, the plot is definitely unusual, and had a few surprises that I didn’t see coming. I have fallen in love with all of the characters and hope that D.L. Fletcher writes more about them.

This is one of those books that will keep you up all night reading and then cry because you finished it and boy did I cry. I really enjoy this author’s writing style which is a no-frills way with storytelling and is character driven.
I highly recommend this author and all her books and can’t wait for more from her.

The surface is but a timeworn dream. A forgotten memory.

But Skyler Goldberg is not ready to give up. Even if it means losing everything.

Flower of Memory is the prequel of the dystopian science-fiction series Amaranth. Fans of the TV series The 100 and the Snowpiercer will enjoy every page!
Robin's Review: This is such a freaking cool story. It's a refreshing change to the science fiction/post-apocalyptic genre. I loved every part of it, the plot, the world building, the characters, and the writing. It was a great read. I highly recommend this book.

Robin’s Review of Crimson: The Red Plague

Crimson: The Red Plague

by R.W. Fisher

Rating: 5 out of 5.
Crimson: The Red Plague
by R.W. Fisher
Learning to survive this fallen world, avoiding the mutilated corpses inhabiting interstate 5 and its surrounding cities, is a lot like surfing. Some learn slowly, first mastering the shallow waves, while others are thrown into the depths and forced to tread water.
Content Warning: This book contains violence, language, sexual assault, and stalking.
Eighteen-year-old Bobby Stratton will never forget his first encounter. He was rubbing the thigh of his longtime girlfriend, scratching up and down her distressed denim. The final minutes of their 4th period biology class was drawing near when the piercing sirens ensued. The door hinges snapped, and without warning, they became submerged in the blood of their peers. They were…eating each other. Entrails splashed upon whiteboards and innards covered their wooden floors like fresh chum.
Bobby peered from beneath his desk, unaware of what led to such mutilation, and was met with the unforgettable sight of his former teacher. His once innocent, blue eyes, now blanketed with a crimson sheet.
Carnage hit their school in a wave. Only the quickest and most adept were able to escape the bloody riptide.
Robin's Review: This is a fast paced thrill ride. In California is 18 year old Bobby Stratton, who leads a group with the help of Sean Reynolds. The group consists of brother, Marcus, friend Dante, girlfriend Chloe Reynolds, and resident Paul Goldean, all trying to survive. The world building is rich and descriptive. The characters were real and relatable. The plot is action packed with lots of zombie gore. I look forward to more from this author.
Favorite Lines: “They had places to be, and the longer they waited to embark on whatever cross-country trip they hoped would get them to that last distant family member known to have a heartbeat, the harder it was to carry on.”
“Jeez, yes. I’m freaking starving. Seriously, it feels like my intestines are dirty dogging each other.”
Interesting Observation: “Their weapons became someone else’s, then someone else’s, then someone else’s, until the ammo went dry, and a hodgepodge of fresh blood stained the trigger.”
“In this world, survival is a never-ending combination of killing, grieving, traveling, and foraging.”
And the best line of someone turning:
“Lisa’s sight bleeds into darkened crimson and she’s gone, emancipated from her earthly shell.”

Robin’s Review of The Oath: Book Two of The Grey Tower Chronicles

The Oath: Book Two of The Grey Tower Chronicles

 by Jillian Bondarchuk

Rating: 5 out of 5.
The Oath: The Grey Tower Chronicles

Book Two
Jillian Bondarchuk
He’s the chieftain of Clan MacKinnon; she’s the daughter of a powerful druid. When they are forced through magic into an arranged marriage, will it end in war…
or passionate surrender ?Bound by a blood oath that feels like a curse, Malcolm MacKinnon quickly regrets the promise he’d made to Vanora, the witch who would save his brother’s life: protect her daughter… or die trying. He needs to collect her before the marsh violets bloom, but as winter thaws, Malcolm hesitates to fulfill his vow… and time is running out. Living on the fringe of her people, shunned because of the scars that mar her body, Coira always knew she’d die a spinster.
Author's note: The Oath is stand-alone but I could not write Malcolm and Coira's story without revealing the ending of The Shield and the Thistle. The Oath can be enjoyed if read out of order, although I strongly urge you to read Meggie and Colin's story before you read The Oath for the best reading experience. xoxo!
Robin's Review: This is the story of Malcolm MacKinnon who is the brother of Colin from the author’s first book titled The Shield and The Thistle. I love the rich distinctive writing style of this book. The world building is imaginative and so realistic that I felt like I was there, living in that time. The characters are fully fleshed out and totally relatable even though it’s in the past. I love how Malcolm has changed since the first book and proceeds to protect Coira from many dangers. I empathized with Coira so much that she is hands down my favorite character, so far that is. I highly recommend this author and her books to anyone looking for an adventure. Once again, I will be buying my mother a signed copy. We are total fans for life. More please!

Robin’s Review of In the Midst of Magic

In the Midst of Magic

 by Christian Cura

Rating: 5 out of 5.
In the Midst of Magic
by Christian Cura

Meet Kara Hartman, a photojournalist who is hiding her magic from the world.
Traumatized by her brother's death, she wants nothing more to do with magic. But just when she thought she could neglect her gift, it becomes apparent that the universe has other plans for Kara. When she discovers that an old foe has broken out of prison, hellbent on destroying her new life, Kara has no choice but to embrace the only power that can stop her.
Trigger Warnings: Violence is prevalent throughout the story, and there is occasional profanity. There is an explicit scene between two consenting adults, and references to bullying and cheating.
Robin's Review: This is so many genres combined that I’m not sure what to call it. It has action and adventure. It has magic and sorcery. It has romance and betrayal. It has murder and suspense. Finally, it has thrills and coming of age aspects. It is well written and fast paced with a hint of urgency to see what happens next. And there is always something happening. The world building is rich and descriptive, and the characters are fun and relatable.
All in all, a very good read. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Urban Fantasy reads.
