A Warrior's Calling: Daughter of Blood: Nokemono Part I

In the heart of ancient Japan, Nokemono has been living on the streets for as long as she can remember. She's learned the ways of the streets, fighting for survival every day of her life.
In the heart of ancient Japan, Nokemono has been living on the streets for as long as she can remember. She's learned the ways of the streets, fighting for survival every day of her life. She's made friends along the way but has no idea what happened to her family. One day, a samurai named Saito saves Nokemono from a pickpocketing gone wrong. She soon discovers that the only thing she had left from her father, a sword, was taken by Saito.

As she sets out to reclaim her sword and uncover the truth about her family and her past, Nokemono discovers that she is more than just a street fighter. With fierce determination and a warrior's spirit, she embarks on a journey of self-discovery and redemption, discovering her true calling along the way.
Robin's Review: Nokemono, Noke, is a street-smart, crafty thief I fell in love with from the beginning.
As things start to unravel, she goes on a journey or quest, if you will, to get back the only thing she has of her father, and in doing so, she becomes so much more than what she thought she was.
With every page, I was captivated by Noke's wit and charm, rooting for her every step of the way, and her character growth was kinda of inspiring. But brace yourself for some twisty turns and exciting adventures. And, omg, the rich and descriptive world-building that was just phenomenal and brought this world to life.
This was a thrilling and inspiring tale that I cannot recommend enough.

by K. A. Riley

They’re getting played to death.

Every year, one hundred of the most dangerous convicted criminals from the impoverished Ward are given a chance to earn their freedom and to live a life of luxury in Nova Heights, the walled-in city of glass and steel estates built into the side of a mountain.
They’re getting played to death.

Every year, one hundred of the most dangerous convicted criminals from the impoverished Ward are given a chance to earn their freedom and to live a life of luxury in Nova Heights, the walled-in city of glass and steel estates built into the side of a mountain.

All that’s standing between the Hopefuls and a full pardon are the Amnesty Games, a seven-day barrage of challenges, puzzles, mazes, traps, obstacles, contests, and competitions.

The games are wild, dangerous, and beamed by satellite onto every crumbling surface of the Ward where they are enjoyed by thousands of rowdy fans.

This electrifying global phenomenon makes World Cup football hooliganism look like a church picnic.
In an added twist, at the Usurper Stage of the Amnesty Games, some of the Hopefuls are digitally “taken over” by selected Warders, who get to compete as avatars for the chance to win medicine, food, and water rations for themselves and for their families.

As trained warriors and defenders of Nova Heights, seventeen-year-old Alora and her team of Hawkers are assigned to oppose the Hopefuls in their quest for amnesty. Alora is confident in herself, in her team, and in the importance of the games for the ongoing stability of the elite members of Nova Heights.

But what happens when buried secrets are revealed and the two sides stop playing the game by the same rules?

For fans of the Hunger Games, Divergent, and the Maze Runner by the author of Recruitment and the Cure
Robin's Review: This is the first book in The Amnesty Games series by K.A. Riley - a thrilling and enjoyable read that will keep you engaged from beginning to end. This action-packed adventure spans 491 pages and is perfect for fans of young adult dystopia.
Every year, 100 of the most dangerous criminals from the Ward, known as the Hopefuls, are given a chance to earn their freedom by participating in the deadly Amnesty Games. The world-building and complex social structure are well-crafted and described in detail, making it a fascinating read.
The characters are intriguing and multifaceted, each driven by their own motivations as they struggle to survive in this ruined world. You may even find yourself rooting for some of them. I won't spoil the rest - it's best to read it yourself with an open mind. If you enjoyed K.A. Riley's previous works, you are sure to love this one too.

Zombunny has an afterlife-threatening problem. As an undead rabbit, he has been through a lot. Now he is wandering down the road searching for a tomb. Join his journey as he meets creatures out of Jewish folklore. Who will help him rest in peace?

Fantastically illustrated in vibrant colors, this odyssey is a creepy parody of a certain beloved bedtime story. This weird and wry story will bring a twisted grin to anyone of Goth sensibilities.
Robin's Review: This children's storybook, 'Home for a Bunny,' has been given a charming update—however, the differences from the original stop there. The book is captivating with its rhymes and bright, unique illustrations featuring creatures from Jewish folklore. The death's-head hawkmoth appears throughout the story, adding a great touch to each illustration and encouraging readers to turn every page in search of it.

Introducing the informative add-on appendix - a supplement featuring information on plants, animals, mythical creatures, and details on radioactive and poisonous substances.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story for its fresh and original ideas that conveyed powerful messages.

So, the question is, doesn't everyone deserve to be welcomed, appreciated, and accepted?
