What is the Gates of Eden Universe?
A lot of religions and traditions had some kind of “other” world, a primeval world, unmarred and unstained by human corruption. In the Judeo-Christian tradition it was the Garden of Eden. For the Druids and Celts, it is Annwn. For Louisiana vodouisants it is Guinee.
All the Gates of Eden books are based on a particular mythological or spiritual tradition. While the magical systems are fictional, they are based on rites, lore, and mythologies unique to these traditions. There is a lot of overlap between traditions in these books–what the Druids call one thing, the Voodoo Mambos call something else. In the end, however, we see in these books a magical system that transcends the differences in religion and myth and unifies us all under a common force, a power, something uniquely human but nonetheless absent from our magic-less world. There may be many “Gates,” but ultimately there is one Eden, one Annwn, one Guinee. One humanity.
I couldn’t have explained it better. If you can’t find something in this starter library that you like then I don’t think it can be found. It is such a teaser for all things mythical.

(A Zvi Jayden Novel)
A horrible murder by a rogue vampire makes him Black Star’s number one fugitive. Deputy Hendri Connor calls on Zvi Jayden species unknown into the investigation. Her sister Moe who is a peacefully talented witch and Killian Kavanaugh who is centuries old King of the vampires, and a true gentleman are there to help her catch the killer of the horrendous murders before it’s too late.
Add in a “safe” hangout called The Bar, a bunch of varied supernaturals and you got a story so complex and witty that you cannot, and I mean cannot stop reading.
Sigh…as I fan myself. What can I say other than a fun and humorous must read.

Twenty-one-year-old, John-Michael is often misunderstood and considered odd or weird.
He feels like he’s missing something in life but he’s not sure what that is. But when he is looking into mirrors he sees everything and more…that most people don’t.
Then one day he sees a strange man in a blue suit that appears in town. A man who doesn’t belong there, and who has a suspicious curiosity for the antique shop where John-Michael works and its owner.
And then his employer is found dead, and he becomes the number one suspect.
John Michael finds himself trying to solve the mystery himself maybe by being overly observant he can find clues others miss. But if he does will anyone really believe him or will the man in the blue suit catch up to him?
I really liked the character John-Michael. He was sweet and entertaining. The plot was good and flowed easily. But the ending was a twist.
Land On Me
by Matthew R. Corr
Grief is just love with nowhere to go.
Landon Griffin is a senior at Madison High in Madison, Texas, or “Mad High” as it’s called. He was the running back and co-captain of the school’s football team. He has had a girlfriend, who he has dated for over a year, and things were looking good for him to get a football scholarship. His dad is the superintendent of the high school and in his first year of campaigning to become Mayor of Madison, which packed on the pressure of being the golden boy.
One day he notices the back of someone in school. He is left wondering what he looks like from the front. And why does he even care? Giving the stranger the codename Mystery Boy, his simple life shatters when feelings spark for a guy he’s never met. Why is fate playing a cat and mouse game with his obsession with Mystery Boy? So, while trying to figure out where all this fits into the spectrum of his sexuality, his worries are compounded by what if people found out, everyone would treat him differently. It could even ruin his dad’s chances of getting the votes he needed for mayor.
It’s a beautiful coming of age story with a little confusion of sexuality mixed in. It’s respectfully and sweetly done. The gay stress the story invoked felt real. It filled me with a sense of dread, outrage, and sadness. The story does have some lighter notes from the 1980’s nostalgia the author throws in.
I didn’t want to stop reading because I didn’t want the book to be over, so I was stuck. I would put the book down knowing it was going to end soon but pick it back up again because I wanted to know how it ended.
The next book will come soon enough, even though I can’t wait.

But Chris and Eddie are not the only people curious about the mysterious skyscraper either; others are also feeling called toward the monstrosity intent on solving its mysteries. What they find is beyond terrifying. Like a maze they are being pushed up towards the top floor.
And something is waiting on the top floor.
This was an intriguing idea for a story. It was well thought out and written with twists and turns literally that made it an edge of your seat read. I’m hooked. I have already bought the next book in the series. They Cling to the Hull (Horror Lurks Beneath Book 2)

“Gage,” she responded as she closed the door behind her, “as in baggage without the bag,”
If you didn’t read book one in this series called Prey: Emergence then “spoiler alert” Gage is ok.
Bridget “Gage” Grayson thought she was done confronting her past but that was wishful thinking. With the revelation that she isn’t really an orphan because her parents are alive sends her into a tailspin. Now she must choose to trust her father or her family at Prey.
This a complicated storyline that makes you really feel for the main character, Gage. This book is just as fun as the first one but just a little deeper and more frustrating in terms of her relationships.
There is profanity, mild rude humor, and violence in this book.

The Road to Redemption is Long...

This series was an awesome binge read for me. I’m glad I didn’t have to wait for the next book since it conveniently came all together. It had action and adventure with endearing characters in a vast dystopian world. I would recommend this series to everyone.

The Twin Stars (The Coseema Saga)
By Bridgette Dutta Portman
What would you do if you fell into a world you created yourself?
What if that world turned against you?
Olive Joshi is an imaginative sixteen-year-old with OCD and all that entails but she finds solace in writing stories in a journal about Coseema, a magical princess on the distant planet Lyria but unwittingly creates a real world that drops her into it. What? I know right?
Can Olive be the hero of her own story?
I find the character, Olive so relatable. I like how her specialness is written with kindness and sensitivity making the story more realistic if that could be said for a fantasy book. There is very unique world building that brings the world into sharp focus.
Coming of Age

Book one in series
“Gage,” she responded as she closed the door behind her, “as in baggage without the bag,”
Bridget “Gage” Grayson is smart and witty but a “hot mess” with no family to call her own she makes her own in the Proactive Resources for Evidentiary Yields (PREY). It exists to solve the cases which law enforcement cannot due to red tape, or lack of resources. But after 5 years her past has finally caught up with her. What will happen next will blow your mind.
If you enjoy a kick butt female protagonist with witty sarcasm, cool cars, hot characters, and adorable dogs then this book is for you.
Now I’m going to read Prey: Revelations book to in this series.
There is violence, profanity, and torture in this book.
