Goddess of Everything: A Blood-Curdling Tale of Truth, Freedom, and Love
by Paul DeBlassie III

A blood-curdling tale of a Mother's affection for her son, and her son's struggle for truth, freedom, and love.
In the mystic land of Aztlan del Norte, a realm of supernatural happenings and unexpected turns of fate, psychiatric healer Gabriél de LaTierra encounters evil within the Orphanage of the Holy Innocents. Children disappear for reasons kept secret by Mother Juana de la Cruz, Superior of the Nunnery and the Orphanage.
Robin's Review: This book is full of twisty turns that kept me guessing the whole way through. It's got a little bit of everything, including suspense, thriller, mystery, supernatural, horror, and maybe even folklore. The characters are well-written and stirred up a lot of emotion in me. I was rooting for some and swearing at others. The main character, Gabriele, sees many horrific acts at the Orphanage of Holy Saints, where children go missing. His mother happens to be Mother Superior and a zealot. So are the other nuns. This story is about good versus evil, with a theme that seems crazy but also plausible. I will let you decide.

Distracted by a time she’d thought she’d forgotten, Agent Harris battles to concentrate on the hunt leading her across London and onwards to the suburbs, hoping to stay one step ahead of rivals intent on getting to the prize first.

Despite a constant concern that if she doesn’t succeed so many could die, including an innocent who’d become so important to her, the chase takes her over the ocean where her fears seem as if they have come true. I don’t want to say these are cute, but they are small, quick, and handy for a little light reading while waiting around a while. I enjoyed the main character, Carrie, and her no-nonsense way. The Group: Jana: A Post-Apocalyptic Zombie Adventure

The Group: Jana: A Post-Apocalyptic Zombie Adventure

Book 1 of 1: The Group

by Jenn Amato

No one is ready for this!!!

Jana expected a new life when she left the UK for the big city life of Toledo, Ohio. What she didn’t expect… was to find herself stuck in the Midwest, newly sober, and fighting zombies. Jana surprises even herself when she befriends a small group and then finds them looking to her for leadership. This rag-tag group of misfits struggle to survive amidst zombies and humans that have no good intentions. Jana tries to maintain while fighting her own personal demons with alcohol.

Book One in The Group Series is an incredible journey through the zombie apocalypse where Jana finds the family she never had but always needed. A story of survival that is more than just personal survival but one of strength and courage.

This book is awesome– I usually write down my favorite lines in my book reviews, but I had so many just in the first few chapters that I gave up. I love snark, and this book definitely delivers. I don’t want to ruin it for you by telling you too much and spoil your experience but suffice it to say that I enjoyed it immensely. I’m already impatiently waiting for the next one.

The main character, Jana, is incredibly well-written and relatable. I felt like I was right there with her, trying to survive in this post-apocalyptic world. Wow. Just, wow. This author is one to watch in the coming year.

Northern Quartet is set in 2030, after the world's been a post-apocalyptic mess for eleven years.
After The Fall

This collection of short stories updates readers on the development of Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, and Montreal, with many recurring characters from the Shattered North series.
This is five years after Four Cities.
In Vancouver, Henry returns to seek the mystery girl.
In Calgary, Abe flies out to confront American marauders.
In Toronto, Martin helps the Chevy Brothers deal with giant rodents.
In Montreal, Matilda arrives in a stolen plane to warn Alexi.
Robin's Review: This is a really great way to wrap up The Shattered North series. You get a satisfying conclusion to The Four Cities: Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, and Montreal. And then this book sets up the author's next book series, The McKinley Chronicles, which has already been released. This series is so full of action and suspense that I'm going to have to read it again to see what I might have missed the first time. I would definitely recommend both of these book series by this author.

The Undertaker's Daughter: A Novel of Supernatural Horror
by John James Minster

Don’t play with dead things.
Anna Dingel is an introverted, socially inept 18-year-old raised in the family funeral home.
And for some reason, her classmate Timmy—the one in the band—likes her too.
After a makeover from her best friend Naomi, Anna breaks away to see him perform live, but the leader of a bad school clique attempts to assault Anna in the parking lot. Once the leader is released from jail, so begins an ever-widening maelstrom of cruel retribution, turning Anna and Timmy’s summer of love into a nightmare.
Robin's Review: This is a creepy tale about Anna who is a young adult leading a sheltered life as the Undertaker’s Daughter. It could be called a coming-of-age story but for the dark themes.

I enjoyed this story in part because it is set in my home state, Pennsylvania, but also because it is well-written, enjoyable, and fresh. The plot is well thought out, and full of twisty turns with so much clever detail, or should I say research that I could not put it down. It follows the main character, Anna and her friends Naomi, and Timmy. They go through some nasty times with some vengeful bullies out for some pay back. Things get dark when an evil force is awakened, and lots of people end up dead. It has a complete and satisfying end to the story. Well done John James Minster, I really loved this book and highly recommend it to lovers of all genres.

My favorite line is used more than once: “That’s a TP, not MP. Their problem, not mine.”

Deal With Toxic Family Members: 7 Survival Secrets For Adult People To Set Positive Boundaries In Relationships With Parents, Siblings, And Relatives Within Five Weeks Without Cutting Ties
by Lucca Zeni
Have you ever wondered why you feel exhausted and frustrated when gathering with certain family members?

Rating: 5 out of 5.
Robin's Review: This book provides useful information about toxic family members and the behaviors or patterns you might see in yourself or your family members. It shows you how to acknowledge your possible triggers and emotions and how to deal with them. It also covers whether you should sever ties with the toxic person or family member and, if you can’t, what you can do to minimize their effect on you.
I found this book both interesting and helpful and highly recommend it.
Here are some thought provoking lines:
“Just like me, have you ever felt like you are the family’s “different one”? Do you have the impression that you’re not anything like other family members? It’s most likely because you are different from them, and there’s nothing wrong with it. However, when dealing with toxic people, it’s crucial to remember that you can’t change them; thus, it’s best not to push them too much. Instead, save your energy for something less stressful.”
“Nobody Can Drive You Crazy If You Don’t Give The Keys”
“Love them from a distance. Pray for them, wish them well, but don’t allow them to abuse you.” ~ Kimber Waul
Difficult Relationships In The Workplace: Manage Diversity And Politics, Improve Your Resilience And Strength Effectively, Gain Emotional Intelligence, And Prevent Burnout
by Lucca Zeni

Workplace toxicity is more than having a bad day at work or not getting along with your colleagues. Harmful behaviors get in the way of your performance. Some relationships can make you feel psychologically distressed, physically exhausted, or mentally depleted.

Rating: 5 out of 5.
Robin's Review:I wish I had this book years ago. This book goes over what is toxicity in the workplace, but it doesn’t stop there and leave you hanging. Instead, it gives you solid information into the some of the reasons a person might be toxic and how not to get drawn into their negative behaviors. It defines the seven personality types that you might come across in your job and how to work with them. It then dives into people’s perception of you and how you might go about changing it or not even trying. It talks about boundaries and how to set them. This is not a book of pointing fingers but teaches us we are all human with flaws and needs. I found this book both interesting and informative, and I'll definitely read his other book on toxic family members.

Back for the final installment, a freshly revived David and the rest of the immortal vampyres return to the place it all began: Africa.
As they continue to fend off Discordia’s attacks, the close proximity of the reincarnated gods forces them to discover more about their shared pasts than ever before.
Joined by new gods, and some long forgotten, the Ancient Ones must find a way to heal old wounds and reconcile their pasts, or risk the ruin of all. Another volume of adventure, tragedy, and love, the third book in The Ancient Ones Trilogy brings to a close the tale as old as time itself, with one final bite.
Robin's Review: The Ancient Ones Trilogy ends with a huge sigh from me with this being the last book in this series. I fell in love with this series from the start and have loved each book waiting with impatience for the next one to be released. And each time I was not disappointed, sleepy with a book hangover but so not disappointed.
I was super excited to see what happens next with some of my favorite characters and of course stayed up all night just to find out. This series has a plot like no other book I've read before. It's so engrossing and imaginative. The world building felt so real that I wanted to live in their world if you know what I mean. The characters are so well-written that you can’t help becoming invested in them.
This is a fascinating story that blends folklore and mythology perfectly. It could definitely be considered a classic. If you're looking for a beautifully written story to keep you up at night, this is a must-read.

When Amy is buried alive in her own back garden, she thinks she is going to die. She is beaten unconscious but fortunately, wakes up the next day still able to breathe.
Managing to dig her way out, she vows revenge on those that buried her, for her and her young daughter’s sake.
And what she has planned for them all would make being buried alive seem trivial in comparison…

Trigger Warning
This book contains scenes of an adult nature. Do not read if easily shocked.
Robin's Review: Wow, just wow!! I finished this in one sitting because, well, it is a short story but also because I needed to find out how Amy Hunter got her revenge. Interesting ways. That’s all I am saying. You gotta read it for yourself. It is of the graphic nature, but hey, that is horror for you. An amazing story that is well-written and easy to read with twisty turns. Loads of fun, as always, with this talented author.

Mad idealists plot to overthrow them as wisest human negotiates with the extraterrestrials who caused this catastrophe for the survival of our species.

Chaos
Book 3: Apocalypse
by Hayley Anderton and Laura Swift

Just as things seem to be calming down, the members of the farm are about to face their biggest challenge yet.
As a horde approaches, the team must fight in order to survive another night. But with their group vastly outnumbered and cracks beginning to show among them, survival seems to be slipping through their fingers.
Robin's Review: This a well-written and easy-to-read cozy zombie apocalypse story about young adults and teenagers surviving in a new and dangerous world. It seems like they're barely hanging on to their survival with their pinky fingers, or maybe that is just me. So now that we have all the players figured out, we jump right into it. I mean, a zombie horde, blood guts, gnashing teeth, and bodies everywhere. I don't want to give anything away, so I will stop there.

This a great zombie book. I love the authors writing style; that is not overly graphic but with enough description to understand what is going on. The characters are young and kinda snarky, which I enjoy. I see bad things coming up for the characters that are in the next book. (No, I haven't read it yet). So, an exciting and entertaining plot throughout the series. I am going to be sorry when this series ends.
Great Quotes:
She would trade what was left of their humanity for her own in a heartbeat.

“Let’s squish them down and make some zombie soup.”

They’re just speed bumps, he told himself. Just speed bumps.

“Looks like you’ve got an uncontrollable pest problem now.”

“Then I guess we do shots of espresso and get on with it.”

“We’re not doing this again,” he hissed. “We don’t need any more newbies trying to get in our good books. Don’t we already have our hands full with Joe?”
