A Creation of Tomorrow

Alice's daughter Patsy now missing, her granddaughter Cami was without a mother and the one person that protected her from her father's anger. Having no doubt Cami's father Tom was responsible for the bruises, Alice turned to the police again and again, but just like when Patsy went missing, they repeatedly turned their backs on her.

Alice was desperate to find help. With nowhere left to turn, she turned to the most dangerous men she'd ever laid eyes on. Rumor had it that they were drug traffickers. The leader was thought to be the devil himself, and his men his demon disciples, but what choice did Alice have? She needed someone that could protect Cami.

They didn't wear patches on their leather, and they weren't called by any name, but they were brothers. For Rick, running a drug ring was challenge enough. Having each other's back was all that mattered until Alice approached him.

Drawn in the moment he looked at Cami's picture Rick ordered Jonathan and Swan to tail the little girl and find out what they could about her situation. It didn't take long to discover that she needed their help.

What none of them knew was the impact their decisions would have on tomorrow.
This is A Creation of Tomorrow...
Robin's Review: Alice Hendricks is trying to protect her granddaughter, Cami from her abusive father, Tom Watson. Enlisting the help of drug trafficker, Rick Stackston and his “boys.”

I couldn’t help but fall in love with the character Cami and I totally felt her pain, confusion, and anxiety.

This is a well written and engaging story with thoroughly fleshed out characters and some twisty turns. There is just enough cuteness and wit to make you keep turning the pages, blended well with drama, and stirred with a lot of action. I am so invested in these characters, I am heartbroken this journey has ended, but has it?

I never had such a wide variety of emotions while reading, I laughed, I cried, I cheered, and I mourned. This story was such an enjoyable experience, I highly recommend this book and this author. I am a fan for life.
My Favorite Line: “He thought about the little girl in the hospital all broken and confused. He thought about how life was before her, and what she brought to them when she walked into their lives. He thought of all the boys, and how they were always content after seeing her, and about how she gave them purpose in a world where they really didn't have one.”

Drawn & Quartered
by Daemon Manx and Diana Olney

Welcome to Drawn & Quartered ...a waking nightmare where nothing is as it seems, and truth is devoured by the shadow of fiction. This accursed realm is ruled by fear, and home to infinite forms of terror. Behind its sinister gates dwell femme fatales, deadly bouquets, scorned lovers, and of course - monsters. Join them in the darkness, if you dare, but be warned, they may invite you to stay...forever.
Robin's Review: This book includes four freakishly cool horror stories. I can’t ever get enough of Daemon Manx’s writings. They are always well done, creepy, entertaining, and sure to be page turners. I never know where his stories will go but I am always excited for the ride.

I had not read any of Diana Olney’s works before, but I must say I think I’m a fan for life. Her writing is quite impressive and really entertaining. I hope to read more from these incredible authors soon.

Robin’s Review of The Dying Butterfly

The Dying Butterfly

by D.L. Fletcher

Rating: 5 out of 5.
The Dying Butterfly
by D.L. Fletcher

A post-apocalyptic zombie story. Though it is about an illness the message remains true, and that is when there seems to be no light hold on to hope. It is about never giving up when it appears there is nothing left to fight for.
It is about not taking anything for granted from the simplicity of tasks to the little noises, all the way up to the people we cherish; and that sometimes the strangers we meet along the way, even if we don’t see it, are the ones that give us that strength. Holly and Tony were a young couple in love. They thought they had all the time in the world, but they were wrong... As the illness spread and the population was dying, chaos sprang forcing Holly, Tony, and her family to flee their homes. A plan set and necessities previously stocked for this anticipated moment they took to the road. One night as the deranged charged their camp they were forced to scatter, separating Holly from everyone she knew and loved. In her search for her family and Tony, she stumbles upon a small community. By the light of a flickering candle, from a typewriter she found in her travels, Holly tells us about the illness, her new life, and her search for the ones she lost. She shares her new philosophies on life, all that we take for granted each and every day, and human vulnerability as she reminisces the past, and her dreams of one day being reunited with the love of her life and her family.
Robin's Review: This was a well written, well thought out story with intense bits that made it a real page turner. The writing was descriptive enough to give you the idea of what the author was trying to portray but not overly gory. So, in that this is not your typical zombie apocalypse story. It focuses on the characters, their lives, their trials, and their trauma.

This story is told through the main character, Holly as she journals her thoughts of what she went through.

Introduction of charaters:
Her boyfriend/husband Tony Gardner
Her parents Jim and Georgie Wood
Their neighbors Joyce and Brad
Landon and Dahlia who were stragglers

Zombie Apocalypse Tips:

It was no longer a world to trust first and see if they disappoint you later.

Describing the amount of infected as a pyramid scam. “Hundreds hooked hundreds more in, turning it to thousands overnight and thousands more the next."

“I know it's risky, but practice and learning is the only way to get strong now; and being close to some sort of supply source.”

"Look for a place maybe no one will want."

Learn how to be stealthy, and how to fight without getting bit.

Prep the house by putting boards by the windows ready to be hammered up and fill pillowcases with sand, stacking them as needed for barricades inside entrances.

I remember asking my dad why we didn't just leave right then and there rather than do all that work to protect something we had no power to hold on to. This isn't to protect the house Holly. It's to protect those in it.

We need to save our resources for when there aren't any resources left. If we run now, we burn through everything unnecessarily. We will be looking for food and water when we should be working at getting as far away as we can. This is all to make sure everyone is safe.

Those who sleep have awakened, and Dearborn is the only thing standing in the way of the rest they desire.
Robin's Review: This is a well written fast paced story. It was rich with cool pirate nostalgic feels. It is a short story, so I won’t go into detail. But it is about a Captain and his dark secret. An interesting and entertaining story from start to finish. Well done.

Tyrant's Rise
The Wailing Echoes Series
by Bella Dean Joyner

The tyrant has risen, and it needs another soul.
Following the death of their estranged father, Joseph Young and his sister, Hope, inherit a dilapidated yet spacious cabin in the woods, complete with sprawling greenhouse and deep, unexplained gouges in the timber. As a strange plant takes root within the walls, Joseph feels something calling from the forest...Something ancient and magical...Something powerful...Something evil...And it's been waiting for Hope. Can Joseph save his sister from eternal damnation, or will the tyrant claim him instead?
Robin's Review: A tale of siblings Joseph and Hope who inherit their estranged and possibly insane father’s cabin. A not so small cabin with an attached greenhouse. It is isolated in a remote area in the woods and in which the closest town is a small town called Strega Falls of Kentucky. In this town everyone and everything is buttoned down tight at dusk. Which should have been the first clue. Am I Right?

They came to “wrap up” their father’s life and hopefully figure out what to do with his things, and then decide what to do with the cabin. Their Uncle Allen believes that they can and should sell it and go back to living their lives. But upon seeing the cabin and its mysterious claw marks and blood they are not sure what to do with it. So, they wonder; What was their father doing out here so isolated from everyone? Was he just eccentric or was he truly unstable? And what and why was he researching the occult and how could that possibly be connected to their mothers death years ago? So many unanswered questions but are they ready to find out the answers? And at what cost?

This story creeped me out with its suspenseful horror. The telling of it was so descriptive I really felt like I was there, and I got scared. Duh? The plot was well written, thought out and entertaining. The characters were likable and realistic. The world building was rich and interesting. I really enjoy anything written by Bella Dean Joyner. I highly recommend all of her books especially this one.

This is a spin-off from the author’s Cascadia Fallen series and now I must go back and read them all. This was a well written fast paced edge of your seat page turner. Charlie: Zombie Slayer Book 1
by Gayle Katz

A snarky teenager. A new school to navigate. Can Charlie stop a zombie apocalypse in time for finals?
After she moves across the country and out of the hot zone, Charlie hopes to leave hunting behind. She's ready to make some friends at her new high school. But the past she hoped to bury rises again with a fresh, city-wide outbreak.

Desperate to stop the walking dead, Charlie enlists the help of some classmates to find patient zero. But as the scourge spreads, her talents may not be enough to keep them alive.

Will Charlie discover the source of the infection, or will she meet a gruesome end?

Charlie is the first action-packed novel in the Zombie Slayer apocalypse series. If you like sassy heroines, witty banter, and over-the-top zombie brawls, then you’ll love Gayle Katz’s tale of high school angst and flesh-eating walkers.

Zombie slayer or zslayer, Charlie Warner a 11th grade student moves from her hometown of Dallas, Texas giving up slaying to move with her Grandmother to Portland Oregon. Only her mentor, Stewart George follows her with bad news. The zombie leader, zleader bit someone before it died and that “person” came back to Portland and has started infecting others. So she must slay again. Not wanting to reveal her true calling to anyone in the beginning especially her friends Owen and Zan because that would put them in danger. As she searches for the new zleader and tries to figure out the supplier of the new drug, “zrug” she’s just your typical teenager. Yea right! What more could go wrong? Don’t ask just read it for yourself.
Robin's Review: I really loved this story and quickly became addicted. It’s fun and snarky but also, Zombies! The world that Katz has built, is a new and refreshing change from the usual zombie story. I’m a sucker for a strong female character with a kick butt personality and boy does this book have that in bulk. The characters are well written, and the plot was full of action and slaying. It was suspenseful, a real page turner, I was always ready to find out what happens next. The funny quips had me laughing from the get-go. I really, really, enjoyed this book. It was a lot of fun and hugely entertaining. Like some of my previous reviews, I would describe this as a “Cozy Zombie” apocalypse story. I could see myself reading it again and again, of course after I have read the rest of the series. Looks like it’s gonna be a few sleepless nights for me, and I hope for you also. Gayle Katz has authored a fantastic story and now, will be one of my go to authors. Will I read anything she writes? Books? Yes. Novellas? Yup. Cereal boxes? You bet!
Zombie Tips:

A zombie leader could mask as a human, but their eyes would still glow green.

Favorite Lines:

“Nope, this is a new drug. It’s believed that it’s manufactured from zombie blood and has a street name of zrug, at least that’s what I’m told.”

“It’s two grand for a finger,” he replied. “A finger?” she asked. “For real?”

“I’d feel more confident that you had the right equipment, than buying from some questionable Portland occult store for the tourists.”

“They had a peek, and then decided to leave. Wise move. If there were any more zombies here, they’d quickly be avocado toast.”

by Paityn E. Parque

Death is not an escape.
One night Ezra Adkins is brutally murdered in her own home. As she was dying, she expects to wake up in the afterworld. She was wrong. She loses consciousness and awakens into a horrific game of kill or be killed. Players can be killed an infinite number of times, but the only permanent way out of the game is their actual death by suicide. Players in the game ruthlessly hunt each other for points, while others kill for fun. Most players have given up on finding an escape from the game and spiral into insanity, killing without reason. It’s mayhem. Ezra soon learns who to trust and who to hunt down. But as she falls deeper into the game, she starts to lose herself as the bodies pile up. The line blurs between what she’s always known to be right and wrong. Metal will clash. Blood will spill. Minds will break. And before it’s too late, Ezra must find an escape from the game before she becomes the real enemy.
Trigger Warning: mental health, PTSD, suicide, and death.
Robin's Review: An enticing blend of suspense and thrilling drama. It was a well written and well thought out story that was full of twisty turns which is just how I like it. I really loved the authors descriptive storytelling, the exceptional world building and the suspenseful “gotta turn the page” of it. I am really impressed with Paityn E. There’s nothing a government wouldn’t do to remain in power.

No Child of Mine: A dystopian political conspiracy thriller.

 by Olga Gibbs

Rating: 5 out of 5.
No Child of Mine:
by Olga Gibbs

There's nothing a government won't do to remain in power.

57th Year of the true leadership of The Ordained Liberating Party; or Year 2273 by the old calendar.

"The Collapse" took millions of lives and most of the country's farming lands, bringing the surviving population of the island to the brink of starvation.

Out of the aftermath of the chaos and anarchy, a new state had emerged, known as The Federation Britannia, run by the single and unopposed Ordained Liberating Party.

The division of the country's orphanages for children of "the true citizens" and children of "the enemies of the state" began the clearance of the questionable element, and bloody years of the Age of Cleansing had finished the purge, leaving behind a perfectly obedient electorate that marched every year in the Liberation Day parades, praising the Party's leadership and following the Party's every directive.

The rule of the Party is absolute. Its tool of compliance, the State Security Unit, is feared.
Tom isn't a frightened follower, he is a true believer. He loves the Party with all his heart. He trusts in the Party's wisdom. The Party had raised him, rewarding his devotion and love with a lucrative engineering job, and after the approval for the Procreation license, it also granted him a family.

But the unexpected midnight visit by the State Security to his flat, questions asked and blood samples collected, unsettles Tom more than he likes to admit, and the following day, whilst investigating the "black uniforms" interest, Tom witnesses the State Security troops, led by the familiar officer, marshalling the children from his daughter's nursery, packing them into trucks and taking them into the unknown.

At that moment Tom is forced to make a decision: either to follow the Party directive and to surrender his child into its plenary care or to protect what he loves and run.

But there's nowhere to run. There's no escape from the island or from the complete control of the Ordained Liberating Party.

"No Child of Mine" is a story of a father's journey to save his child from a totalitarian regime, who is in order to bury the truth prepared to exterminate an entire generation.

Robin's Review: After an apocalyptic event called the “collapse” this dystopian world emerges. It is set in the year 2273 in what used to be England. It is now called The Federation Brittania. “The Ordained Liberating Party” is in charge, rules heavily and demands loyalty.

Tom is a true believer where his wife Judy is more skeptical. They are parents to their child Tilly. In this different society the children are raised by others with visitation given to the parents once a month.

But something happens at the “Liberation Day” parade that makes them question their government, their freedom and independence.

This story had spectacular world building that made me fall right into it.
The characters were your average everyday people but so relatable and flawed.
The plot was original, interesting, and full of suspense and mystery.
I really enjoyed this story and would recommend it to lovers of this genre.

Staff Dominion is the heart-pounding second book in the Treasures of the Ark thriller series. If you like conflicted characters, high tension, and the saving power of love, then prepare to have your breath taken away by the second book in Neena Roth’s captivating series.
Robin's Review: So Moses spoke to the Israelites, and their leaders gave him twelve staffs, one for the leader of each of their ancestral tribes, and Aaron’s staff was among them.
— Numbers 17:6 (NIV)

A fictional tale about the Staff of Aaron and the power it has depending on the “owners” desires with good and evil having their own specific motives in wanting it.

This was a fast paced story full of action and suspense. The plot was interesting in that it involved many genres all put together nicely. The main characters and the love they felt for each other were compelling. This was a remarkable book and I wouldn’t mind going back and reading the first one in this series.
