A dig in a remote site uncovers demonic killings & buried secrets that shatter archeologist Michael Rempart’s world in this sweeping supernatural thriller that crosses time and space from the present to the last days of the Russian Tsars.

When Michael unexpectedly receives a recent picture of a long-lost love, a woman he thought was dead, he gives up everything to search for her and to find answers to questions that have plagued him through the years. Instead, he uncovers more mysteries as he’s drawn deeper into the occult and the ancient power of alchemy.

Michael’s search takes him from St. Petersburg, Russia to an archeological dig site in Ukraine’s Carpathian Mountains—a desolate area where medieval knights once roamed, and where horrifying secrets are buried—and at the same time it creates a mystical connection to the riches and debauchery of the court of Nicholas and Alexandra and the “mad monk” Rasputin.

As Michael’s quest continues, he soon finds that while he hunts, he is also being hunted. Will he find all that he’s looking for before it’s too late?
Robin's Review:

I can’t do the summarization of this book justice, so I won’t. I will leave it up to the author, Joanne Pence to do that for you. But I will say this story has many different beautiful historical places and earlier historical telling of times interwoven through the writing of this plot. The characters were creative and mature with interesting back stories. The detail and description of the scenery was so realistic that I thought I was there. It was a marvelous read with how it all falls together. It was full of mystery, suspense, adventure and chilling horror. A must read for anyone interested in a thrilling adventure.

Thanks so much for an advance review copy of this book. I am voluntarily leaving a review of my own personal opinion.

Wild Refuge – A Review

(A Yellowstone Shifters Novel)

by K. Panikian

Rating: 5 out of 5.
Wild Refuge: A Yellowstone Shifters Novel
by K. Panikian

Sienna has come to terms with who she is or what she is a puma shapeshifter.

Due to a treaty between the territory alphas, the national parks and national forests were off-limits to the packs. No alpha could enter them, and no shifters could patrol them. After learning to control her puma shifting abilities, Sienna, a Yellowstone Park Ranger, finds peace for the first time in her life.

Except there is a murder of an exiled elk shifter, Daniel found by Soren, a West Yellowstone pack beta. Here to help her investigate the murder is
Nick Ryan a law enforcement ranger in Yellowstone and her sort-of on again off again boyfriend. Also helping is her friend, Jordan who is also a backcountry ranger like her, and a lynx shifter. Not to make things any easier is her old boyfriend Logan Black wanting back in the picture after leaving her long ago over his fear of her beast. Add in an old enemy and tormentor named Blair sticking in her nose where it doesn’t belong, and you got a messy murder. Oh, Did I mention the sexy alpha, August that leaves her wild beast wanting.

She knows that if an alpha saw her Beast form, a powerful hybrid of human and puma, with enormous claws and teeth and unparalleled strength, she would be forced into the life of some kind of super soldier or executed for being too monstrous. So, who does she trust?

Now someone from her past is back under suspicious circumstances, and the competing packs that surround her home are threatening open war.

When the fires start, Sienna knows that she must intervene, even if it risks exposure of her rare power. If she doesn’t figure out the hidden connections, she may lose everything. But is the truth worth her freedom?

The backdrop is Yellowstone National Park with different kinds of shapeshifters. The characters are unique with miles of personality. There’s mystery and shifters and sexual tension and shifters and action and shifters. Get my drift. It was an easy read that was entertaining with drama, suspense, and action. I am looking forward to the next book in this series. And I hope the author writes this series for a long time to come. You got my vote.

What is the Gates of Eden Universe?
A lot of religions and traditions had some kind of “other” world, a primeval world, unmarred and unstained by human corruption. In the Judeo-Christian tradition it was the Garden of Eden. For the Druids and Celts, it is Annwn. For Louisiana vodouisants it is Guinee.

All the Gates of Eden books are based on a particular mythological or spiritual tradition. While the magical systems are fictional, they are based on rites, lore, and mythologies unique to these traditions. There is a lot of overlap between traditions in these books–what the Druids call one thing, the Voodoo Mambos call something else. In the end, however, we see in these books a magical system that transcends the differences in religion and myth and unifies us all under a common force, a power, something uniquely human but nonetheless absent from our magic-less world. There may be many “Gates,” but ultimately there is one Eden, one Annwn, one Guinee. One humanity.

I couldn’t have explained it better. If you can’t find something in this starter library that you like then I don’t think it can be found. It is such a teaser for all things mythical.

She will stop at nothing to find the rogue vampire.

Fire Witch

(A Zvi Jayden Novel)

Fire Witch
by Sasha S Marshall
(A Zvi Jayden Novel)

A horrible murder by a rogue vampire makes him Black Star’s number one fugitive. Deputy Hendri Connor calls on Zvi Jayden species unknown into the investigation. Her sister Moe who is a peacefully talented witch and Killian Kavanaugh who is centuries old King of the vampires, and a true gentleman are there to help her catch the killer of the horrendous murders before it’s too late.

Add in a “safe” hangout called The Bar, a bunch of varied supernaturals and you got a story so complex and witty that you cannot, and I mean cannot stop reading.

Sigh…as I fan myself. What can I say other than a fun and humorous must read.

What if there is more to climate change than just the weather?

Darkwood

Something Lurks Below

by Deven Kane

Darkwood
By Deven Kane

What if there is more to climate change than just the weather?

The centuries-old warnings of the Forest Prophets have fallen on deaf ears. Caorran, the capital city, has turned its back on the Forest, refusing to acknowledge the environmental crisis.

Join the investigative reporter and her cameraman, R’chelle and Jaco, as they search for the truth. Caorran is battered by devastating sandstorms, and public dissent is brutally stifled by silver-tongued Senator Adrán.

There’s a lot going on in this book, Kane’s descriptions throughout are deep and realistic, so much so that his description of the dirt and sand actually had me feeling gritty. The characters are easy to follow throughout and their interactions with each other are believable. Having heard so much banter on both sides of the climate change argument, makes this book quite interesting. I definitely recommend Darkwood as a good end of summer read.

Review of The Innkeeper on the Edge of Paris

A ghost, reincarnation, and love.

By J. Schlenker

Rating: 4 out of 5.
The Innkeeper on the Edge of Paris
by J. Schlenker

This is an interesting story line. A woman moves to France 3 years after a divorce. She is drawn to a centuries-old inn on the outskirts of Paris and begins having dreams about a woman who looks exactly like her but from the 1700s. This leads her to start solving the mystery about the woman. The mystery not only draws in the characters but also had me trying to figure things out along the way. She never expects her stay there will lead to a ghost, reincarnation, and love, not with a Frenchman, but a Scotsman named Daniel. The innkeeper, Claire, calls it destiny.

Paris, who could want more, the descriptions of the city and the Inn create imagery that only add to Isa’s tale. I enjoyed the story and the character development, but couldn’t get into the back and forth viewpoints of Isa and the ghost. Overall an interesting story with some twists and turns

Shadows of Rebellion
Four Territories
By L M French

“What am I?” His eyes continued to glow, but he smiled, “Exactly what you were meant to be. And nothing they could have foreseen.” Enter the Territories where war is brewing, danger grows from the very ground underfoot, and the forgotten return to reclaim what's theirs... Our king is missing and terrifying breeds that disappeared centuries ago have returned to wage war on the Territories. And I am becoming... something and am on the run from an order that would see my kind extinct. The longer I survive, rumors of an unstable half-breed grow, threatening my very existence.

You had me at “Hello Sarcastic”. And anything with humor has my vote. Oh my, some of the one liners in this book makes me fall over laughing. I love the characters. I love the story. It had great world building to it. I really really can’t wait for the next one in the series. Author Lindsay French is now one of my automatic buys without knowing what it is about. The lead character is Veda Grey. She is a half-human sentinel and seal-bearer of the Four Territories. It’s like Mercy Thompson meets Meredith Gentry and Anita Blake.

Book Two in The Four Territories Series
Fated Uprising is coming October 27, 2021

Shadows of Rebellion is an Urban Fantasy novel with adult language, situations, and violence.

The Spirit Hunter and the Frozen Child
Sentinel Book 1
by Brenda Nichols

Hunting the dead might make you the prey.

Beth and Todd are together after seventeen years, investigating a series of mysterious fires. Growing up in an orphanage together for many years, they grew a strong bond. Todd is looking for a serial arsonist that may be a copycat of a long dead arsonist. Bethany is looking for a pyromaniac phantom child ghost with anger issues. Will their two worlds collide…yup!

Bethany Sayers works for a company called Sentinel; she is more like extended family with a certain skill set. Todd Rollins believes in the science of his work and not much else, until Bethany upends his rational world. Together they end up hunting a pyromaniac ghost that is running amok in their childhood hometown.

I really loved this story. Brenda Nichols has introduced Todd and Bethany, the characters are fun, intelligent, and strong, they grow throughout the book. The Spirit Hunter and the Frozen Child has everything I like in a book, plus sarcasm. These two and the rest of the impressive characters I rooted for, all throughout the story. Couldn’t put it down. It was such a page turner. I am so glad I only must wait a week to read the next in the series.
