Dead Road: A Zombie Series
(Dead Soil Book 2)
by Alex Apostol
The group of wanderers in the wilderness of Northwest Indiana and the group of survivors at the Dune Ridge apartment complex have come together in this thrilling tale of zombie apocalypse survival. With the scientist, Liam, gone only his journal is left to give hope for a cure to the zombie plague. Christine, Zack, and the others band together to deliver the journal to the disease research center in the heart of downtown Chicago, but it is not an easy road ahead of them.
Ok. I’m calling it. Cozy zombie apocalypse story. Once again the same people left over from the first book that are on a mission. I just can’t get enough of Alex Apostol’s writing.
The next book in her series Dead World will be out in October 2021. I so can’t wait.

Everything’s fresh on Lilith’s Farm. Especially the bodies.
Welcome to Spotsylvania, Virginia, a perfect place to raise a family. Unless you’re Cece Stone. Cece ran away from Spotsy a long time ago, choosing the life of the road dog overstaying anywhere close to home. Tough and independent, she makes her living all over the country, picking strawberries in Salinas, pipefitting in Prudhoe, hauling lumber in Longview. But a mysterious postcard from home brings her back to Spotsy, specifically to Lilith's Farm. The work is hard, and her bosses are jerks, but at least the food is good.
Then strange things start to happen. The fence that borders the farm seems like it's under attack from the forest. Toxic fungus balls keep popping up on the tree trunks. And one by one, her fellow workers go missing.
Anybody else would try to escape, but escape isn't possible. Besides, Cece's on a mission to find her missing father, and nothing, not the forest, not the fungus balls, and certainly not her creepy bosses, will stop her.
An interesting story. Descriptive and entertaining. Easy to read and kind of gross visions of farm life.

Jade is bone-tired from battling a shape-shifting plague. While the 16-year-old knows she was chosen to protect the world, she wonders if she’s the weakest of all her heroic friends. Now her only hope of banishing the life-draining demon is to unlock her native ancestors’ secrets and enter the treacherous Realm of Lost Souls. If she cannot conjure the full force of her abilities in time, she’ll lose her life, her father and unleash a new host of horrors upon the world.
Can Jade trust her spirit to outwit a demon before she loses everything she loves?
Realm of Lost Souls is the second book in the Chronicles of the Supernatural fantasy series, a paranormal post-apocalyptic adventure. If you like steadfast heroines, dystopian settings, and a dash of blood-curdling horror, then you’ll love JM Hart’s riveting tale.
This is the second book in this series. The first book The Emerald Tablet: Chronicles of The Supernatural Book One is well explained so that you are up to speed. The story building is beautifully detailed. The plot is frightening and surreal. The characters are young adults but with special powers and are easily relatable. Everything clicks into place between the world, story, and characters. It’s the age old good versus evil with demons thrown into the mix.

What is the Gates of Eden Universe?
A lot of religions and traditions had some kind of “other” world, a primeval world, unmarred and unstained by human corruption. In the Judeo-Christian tradition it was the Garden of Eden. For the Druids and Celts, it is Annwn. For Louisiana vodouisants it is Guinee.
All the Gates of Eden books are based on a particular mythological or spiritual tradition. While the magical systems are fictional, they are based on rites, lore, and mythologies unique to these traditions. There is a lot of overlap between traditions in these books–what the Druids call one thing, the Voodoo Mambos call something else. In the end, however, we see in these books a magical system that transcends the differences in religion and myth and unifies us all under a common force, a power, something uniquely human but nonetheless absent from our magic-less world. There may be many “Gates,” but ultimately there is one Eden, one Annwn, one Guinee. One humanity.
I couldn’t have explained it better. If you can’t find something in this starter library that you like then I don’t think it can be found. It is such a teaser for all things mythical.

And something is waiting on the top floor.
This was an intriguing idea for a story. It was well thought out and written with twists and turns literally that made it an edge of your seat read. I’m hooked. I have already bought the next book in the series. They Cling to the Hull (Horror Lurks Beneath Book 2)
The Rules of the Road
By CB Jones
If at any point in your journey…
The Rules of the Road, takes you on a writer's journey, connecting stories about strange encounters with a mysterious radio program that only some will hear. Buck Hensley and his radio show called “The Rules of the Road”.
When an amateur journalist encounters a mysterious radio program while driving alone one late night, he is presented with a set of instructions with potentially fatal consequences. After escaping with his life, obsession takes hold and he is determined to find out who is behind the broadcast and who else it has affected.
His investigation leads him to speak with all sorts of travelers each with their own haunting encounter with the phantom program. The “Rules” seemed to only affect those that heard corresponding and specific broadcast. If you haven’t heard the broadcast then you were in the clear or are you?
This book has every freaky scary thing you could think up. It’s beyond creepy.
I like how it has undertones of lessons with dark choices and scary outcomes. Mostly it was just plain exciting, so buckle up buttercup and prepare yourself for a thrilling read. So creepy, fun, and exhilarating that I don’t want to get in the car ever again. Fair enough.

The Spirit Hunter and the Frozen Child
Sentinel Book 1
by Brenda Nichols
Hunting the dead might make you the prey.
Beth and Todd are together after seventeen years, investigating a series of mysterious fires. Growing up in an orphanage together for many years, they grew a strong bond. Todd is looking for a serial arsonist that may be a copycat of a long dead arsonist. Bethany is looking for a pyromaniac phantom child ghost with anger issues. Will their two worlds collide…yup!
Bethany Sayers works for a company called Sentinel; she is more like extended family with a certain skill set. Todd Rollins believes in the science of his work and not much else, until Bethany upends his rational world. Together they end up hunting a pyromaniac ghost that is running amok in their childhood hometown.
I really loved this story. Brenda Nichols has introduced Todd and Bethany, the characters are fun, intelligent, and strong, they grow throughout the book. The Spirit Hunter and the Frozen Child has everything I like in a book, plus sarcasm. These two and the rest of the impressive characters I rooted for, all throughout the story. Couldn’t put it down. It was such a page turner. I am so glad I only must wait a week to read the next in the series.

What if Fairytales are true…
ANIELA: Prelude To The Apprentice's Notebook Series by William Presley
Slavic folklore/fairytale horror story in present day Ann Arbor Michigan.
Sam Valente, creative writing major is interested in the unknown. But something is missing. Somehow empty inside he is always looking for something to complete him. Initially lured in by the promise of inspiration on the afterlife. Who better to ask than the dead born again?
Aniela blurs the lines between real and imaginary like you’re living in an inescapable dark fairy tale. One that she gets to write. I hold the pen! You do what I tell you, you kill who I tell you, she says.
Aniela forces Sam to enact her fantasies of murder and mutilation. If he does not do what she wants, someone he cares about will meet with a horrible death. So, Sam’s only choice is to selectively choose someone to die until he can save himself.
This leads him to seek a priest for confession who in turns refers him to see a psychiatrist, Dr. Emery Loudon. Dr. Loudon specializes in the supernatural.
Together, they must stop her before more people die, but will they?
Delightfully sinister take on Polish folk lore. The book wouldn’t be any more fun, unless it were real. It’s everything your grandma warned you about if you misbehaved, dark, creepy, and thrilling. Aniela is easy to read, fast paced and short, maybe too short. Couldn’t put it down. I didn’t want it to end. I can’t wait for the next book in the series. I highly recommend reading, even buying to keep on your shelf for late night reading.
