In a future ice age, the rich live in warm luxury…
…while the poor toil away in freezing misery.
Until a girl with strange powers changes everything.
Young Adara lives in Settlement Houston and survives by working at the HexPro Joule mine. She isn’t like the wealthy strolling through blizzards in their bikinis and first-class Symbiotes, which keep them balmy as a summer day. Her own life-support system is barely warm enough to get through her shift, but she’s tough, and mining heat cells provides her with a purpose.
Robin's Review: One Step Away From Freezing To Death

Eighteen-year-old Adara has been doing her best to provide for her grandmother and younger brother, Tyse. Now living in the city of Settlement Houston, they are among those relying on heat harvesting from the magma deep within the Earth's crust. The company HexPro then converts this energy into joules and uses it as currency through a Symbiote that is on every citizen of each settlement.

Adair had been working in the mines with her friend Lycas when an unexpected accident occurred and caused Rohn, their mining supervisor, to call for a strike. But what nobody realizes is that this accident has changed Adair – little do they know that officers sent by HexPro to contain an uprising could mean life or death for them all…

Looking for a post-apocalyptic read that is both imaginative and thrilling? Look no further than Mason Dakota's A Burning Settlement! This dystopian coming-of-age story is set in a new ice age Earth and is a refreshing change from the usual fare in the genre. The world-building is incredible, and the characters will draw you in from the very first page.

Well done, Mr. Dakota! I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an entertaining and easy to read story.
